What Are Impulse Responses (IRs)?

An electric guitar tone consists of 3 main things: The guitar, the amplifier and the speaker cabinet. Impulse Responses (IRs) are digital files that capture the sonic characteristics of real-world spaces, microphones and, in this case, guitar cabinets. These files allow you to replicate the tonal qualities of any cabinet setup, without the need for a physical cab and microphone(s).

To use an IR, you simply load the file into an IR loader. This is a software or hardware tool designed to process and load these files into your signal chain. Most modern amp simulators, digital audio workstations (DAWs), and effects processors support IR loaders. Once loaded, the IR will interact with your guitar tone, giving you a mix-ready cabinet sound, as if you were micing up a real cab.

In this pack, we’ve meticulously captured the most authentic, real-world cabinet sounds, using high-end microphones and carefully selected speakers, allowing you to seamlessly integrate these tones into your workflow. Whether you’re recording in the studio or performing live, this collection offers you the flexibility to achieve exceptional guitar tones without the hassle of setting up an actual cab.

Note:
You will need a hardware or software IR Loader to use these files.
These IR’s are compatible with all major amp simulators and digital processors, including but not limited to: Neural DSP, Line 6 Helix, Fractal Axe-Fx, Kemper, and any plugin-based IR Loader. You cannot use these files without an IR Loader and there is no IR Loader included.

Installation guide:

  1. Download and Extract
    After purchasing, download the Ultimate Heavy Grooves MIDI Pack ZIP file from the link in your confirmation email. Extract the contents of the ZIP file to a location on your computer.
  2. Open the Library Folder in Kontakt
    • Open Kontakt.
    • In the Kontakt Library section, locate the Ultimate Heavy Drums instrument.
    • Click on the small dropdown arrow next to Ultimate Heavy Drums and select ‘Open containing folder...’
  3. Locate the MIDIfiles Folder
    In the folder that opens, find and open the subfolder named ‘MIDIfiles’.
  4. Copy the MIDI Pack Files
    Drag and drop or copy and paste the extracted files from the Ultimate Heavy Grooves MIDI Pack (from Step 1) into the MIDIfiles folder.
  5. Restart Kontakt
    • Close Kontakt and then reopen it.
    • Go to the ‘grooves’ section within the Ultimate Heavy Drums instrument.
    • You should now see the new grooves available in the library.
